Moderated Panel Session: Options for the private sector

Biodiversity – of a strategic value in a greening economy

How can the complex issue of biodiversity be handled on a company level? Carbon footprint, water footprint, biodiversity footprint optimisation – what is the next to come for differentiation within complex markets? How can small, medium and multinational enterprises cope with this multilevel challenge? Is it ethical to view biodiversity as an asset with unexplored business potential in these times of heavy biodiversity losses?

A keynote introduction is followed by a moderated panel session with business leaders and stakeholder representatives from various sectors, ranging from SME's to multinational corporations. Business leaders will present their strategies and discuss future developments.

Biodiversity – global nature conservation challenge needs innovative concepts
Biodiversity losses follow economic development – how can this vicious circle be broken? Do global regulatory systems and frameworks hinder innovation in biodiversity protection? Who should pay for biodiversity offset programmes in a time of shrinking public budgets? Do we need greater co-operation and improved networking between the private and public sectors?
 
Keynote introduction followed by a moderated panel session. Representatives from national/international public institutions, NGOs as well as business organisations will present their experiences and outline innovative approaches.

Thematic Arenas: Interactive introduction to thematic sessions
 
Change management is about people's relationships. The Thematic Arenas will not only introduce to the next day's Thematic Sessions but also facilitate participants getting to know each other through interactive elements. Participants will be asked to enrich the sessions with short statements, presentations of good/worse practices, proposals and/or expectations (which will already have started with an online call via SusCon website). After the short session participants will proceed to the “Get together” buffet to further develop new contacts and strengthen old contacts.
